From a young age, Cathy has embodied resilience and an extraordinary spirit. Her journey took an unexpected turn at the young age of eight when she received a diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes. For many, such news might have cast a long shadow, but for Cathy, it became a catalyst, fueling her determination to live life to the fullest. Rather than allowing the condition to define her, she embraced an incredibly active, full, and successful life, proving time and again that challenges can be overcome with courage and grace.
Today, Cathy is not only a beacon of strength but also a loving single mother to thirteen-year-old twins, a son and a daughter, who have inherited her energy and enthusiasm for life. Her dedication extends far beyond her family, touching countless young lives in her professional career. This fall marks a remarkable milestone as Cathy steps into her 28th year as a passionate and dedicated physical education teacher. Her impact in the school community is immeasurable, having served in the roles of interim assistant principal, union president, athletic director, and coaching a wide array of sports including soccer, volleyball, field hockey, basketball, softball, and track and field.
In spite of all her achievements and unwavering focus on living a healthy life, Cathy faces a profound new challenge: her years as a diabetic have taken a toll on her kidneys, leaving her in dire need of a kidney transplant. She is currently in kidney failure, and the immediate goal is to try and avoid dialysis, or at the very least minimize its duration if it comes to that, to give her the best possible chance at a long and healthy life. Her best hope for a long-lasting positive outcome comes in the form of a living kidney donor. Cathy's story continues to be a testament to the power of perseverance, inspiring everyone she encounters, even as she navigates this latest hurdle with characteristic strength and humility.
